I am asked frequently why should someone insure their equine? The answer is simple. Protect yourself and your assets. Your horse no matter what discipline, level, or breed is an asset to you. Not only in value but in companionship. Colic surgery is an expensive most do not plan on. It's the age old thought process of it can't happen to my horse. But the reality is that it can happen to anyone's horse. Regardless of how great the care you provide for your equine is. Your horse can get sick and can you afford the expensive to help fix him or her? And if your equine has to be put down, can you afford to replace the animal for it's value after you and your trainer have put so much time and effort into the equine? This just in... Callie Schott will be going to Cazenovia Equestrian Center to host a clinic from August 19-21. Callie is the Assistant Trainer and Rider at John Madden Sales with a strong background in hunters and recent accomplishments in the jumpers. There will be two sessions each day, from 3:30-5:00 PM and 5:00-6:30PM. There are many options for riders in terms of privacy; a group clinic will be $50, semi-private is $60, and a private clinic will be $70. Accepted Student Day for the Cazenovia College Students is on Saturday, along with more savings here at The Show Trunk! If you are an accepted student, be sure to stop by and recieve 10% off any merchandise in the store! Today is a sad day for the Central New York area... As many of you have already heard we will no longer be having the Syracuse Invitational grace us with it's presence in the future. NHS is moving and so is the Maclay making it virtually impossible to host the Invitational for the Maddens. While they were rated one of the top horse shows in the country in 2010, business is business and the move is utimately happening and there is nothing the Invitational crew can do to stop it. We would like to extend our many thank yous to the staff of the Invitational and the Madden Camp for putting Syracuse on the map in the horse industry. We know that John Madden won't go down without a fight and since he is such a huge supporter of our area, we at The Show Trunk will stand behind JMS and any future endeavors they may embark on! Emerald City Equestrian Team had their very first potluck dinner at Affinity Farm in Skaneateles on Friday the 10th. What a success it was! Congrats to the Gurney Women on being 1st and 2nd in the NYS Fair Classic last night at the fairgrounds... It was a battle to the end and Ava gave her mother Jen a run for her money. Jen scored an 81 in the first round of the classic while Ava scored a 77. The second round Ava came back strong and with a score of 84, making her two round total 161. It was all up to Jen as she was the last to ride in the second round and she ended with a score of 83, making her two round total 164. Both girls were on their game last night but age before beauty prevailed! Keep tuned for an exciting Local Day competition at The Syracuse Invitational coming up to see the Gurney Women battle it out in November!

College students are back and town is busy!! We are very excited to see the new students; freshmen and transfer as well as returning students! We are sad to inform that Caitlin Dean, our store Manager, will be leaving New York in July of 2010... We are going to miss Caitlin and all of her hard work she has done for The Show Trunk but Caitlin was offered a fantastic opportunity to return to Maryland and work for a larger company in their customer service center. As all of you already experience she is the best for the job being that her customer service in The Show Trunk was second to none. Make sure to stop in and say your goodbyes to Caitlin and Sophie!!
